Time Delay Induced Bistability in Swarms

Work at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory

At the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s NREIP program, I worked on bistability analysis in swarms that were modeled with time delay differential equations. It was an excellent opportunity, and I learned quite a bit in the fields of bistability analysis, center of mass/mean field approaches, and defense research in general.

All of the work was done using publicly-available materials. Given the nature of publishing government work, especially work in the defense sector, I’ll be safer rather than sorry and just show the quad chart made as a final deliverable. In addition to explaining my success in determining the bistable region of a swarm, the document I produced serves to support further investment in this field and provide encouragement and advice for future NREIP interns.

The publicly-approved quad chart.
